Brian Swain, MD

With over 15 years of experience in bariatric surgery at Murray Calloway County Hospital, Dr. Brian Swain is committed to helping patients transform their lives by providing quality weight loss procedures with proven results. Gastric Sleeve and Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass are performed laparoscopically, which is less invasive and typically reduces the patient's length of hospital stay. Dr. Swain, a General and Bariatric Surgeon, has completed thousands of bariatric surgeries since 2008. He received his medical degree from the University of Louisville in 1998 and completed his surgical residency at the University of Tennessee at Memphis. Dr. Swain has resided in Murray since 2003 and practices as a general and bariatric surgeon.

Nick Johnson, APRN

Johnson obtained his Master’s degree from Chamberlain University and his undergraduate Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Murray State University. He has worked as a Registered Nurse in the Surgery Dept. at MCCH since 2010 in various roles including a Registered Nurse on the med/surg unit, in the role of the circulating nurse in surgery, as well as, in outpatient surgery and in the post-anesthesia care unit. Before his time as a RN he worked as an ED technician beginning in 2008. His combination of clinical skills and experience provide a strong foundation for an approach that leads to excellence patient care.

Kristen Raymond, MSN, RN, MBSCR

Kristin, a Masters prepared Registered Nurse, has been with the Bariatric Solution’s team since 2022 .She started as the MBSAQIP medical reviewer and recently transitioned into the dual role of MBS Coordinator and MBSCR. She has worked as a RN in both clinical and administrative roles for over 30 years. She obtained her Associate’s Degree in Nursing at Motlow State Community College, her Bachelor’s in Nursing Degree at Tennessee Technological University , and her Master’s Degree in Nursing Leadership and Management at Western Governors University. Kristin works behind scenes as a liaison between MCCH and the Bariatric Solutions office to ensure MBSAQIP standards and best practices are being implemented and utilized correctly. While she does not provide direct patient care, her role through medical chart review, continuous evidence-based quality improvement initiatives, coordinating care provided by the bariatric team, and maintaining all accreditation requirements ensure that our patients are able to receive outstanding care in their own community. Kristin believes nursing is calling and feels blessed to serve as part of MCCH / Bariatric Solutions Team.

Laura King, RD, LD

Laura, a Registered and Licensed Dietitian, is the newest member of the Bariatrics Solutions team. She has worked in the healthcare field for the past 32 years and recently served as a Registered Clinical Dietitian at Baptist Health in Paducah, Kentucky. Laura earned her Bachelor’s degree from Murray State University, and completed an internship at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee. She provides pre and post-surgery medical nutrition therapy, teaches group education classes, moderates support group meetings, and is a member of the Murray Calloway County Hospital Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Committee. Laura states that she feels blessed to have been chosen to serve with the Bariatric Solutions team at Murray Calloway County Hospital, and is honored to be a part of her patient’s weight loss journeys.

Tiffany Kernell, Certified Clinical Medical Assistant

Tiffany began her healthcare career in 2000, in the MCCH Emergency Department while obtaining her associates degree. She also has experience working in Behavioral Health. In 2012 Tiffany and her family relocated to Knoxville, TN where she began working in a Bariatric Surgical practice, and found her new passion. She and her family returned home, to Murray in early 2018. Tiffany then joined the Bariatric Solutions team where she has a great desire and passion to guide, support and educate our patients through their bariatric journey.

Nichole Barton, Receptionist

Nichole joined the Bariatric Solutions team in 2010. She is the face that will welcome you to the office upon your arrival. Nichole completes insurance verification, registration, appointment scheduling, and contacts referrals to the office. She is certified in Medical Office work, through Bay College and has an Associate’s Degree in Medical Billing from Baker College, in Michigan.

Lacy Cleaver, Office Manager

Lacy has been the Office Manager for Bariatric Solutions since 2021. She has previous experience working in Murray Pediatrics in a similar role since 2003. With over 20 years of experience, she is available to assist patients from the beginning of their weight loss journey through follow up. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her family and her daughter Bella.
